Description
Elcogen produces anode-supported intermediate temperature solid oxide fuel cells with thin-film electrolyte. The cells are composed of an electrolyte with electrodes on both sides: one is a porous perovskite cathode and the other is an anode which consists of a support layer and a functional layer. In addition, the barrier layer made of ceria separates the cathode from the electrolyte.
The porous anode support layer provides good mechanical strength and the thinner and less porous anode functional layer provides better electrochemical activity between the anode and electrolyte.
Elcogen applies innovative processing methods, which include wet ceramic processing, tape casting, screen-printing and co-sintering. The wet ceramic processing allows efficient use of materials and the reuse of leftovers. The cells are tailored to operate at temperatures above 600ºC and to use hydrogen and hydrocarbon reformats as input fuels.
Elcogen offers its cells in standard configuration of 10x10cm but cell configuration (half cells, with or without barrier layer) and cell dimensions up to 20x20 cm (rectangular or circular) can be altered according to customers specifications.
